Signs Your Immune System May Be Compromised

The immune system is designed to defend the body against invaders, such as bacteria, viruses and abnormal cells. Although it is well-equipped to protect, certain factors may compromise immune function leaving the body weak and vulnerable to illness.  Here are a few signs which may indicate your immune system is not performing up to par:

    You are constantly feeling sick.

Whether it be a recurring common cold or periodic bouts of diarrhea, gas or constipation, frequent illness or longer than normal recovery times can be signs your immune system is not at its peak.

Did you know most of your immune system (nearly 70%) is located in your gut? It is full of beneficial bacteria that protect against infection and support immune function. When the balance of good and bad bacteria is disrupted, immunity may be compromised.

You feel tired all the time.

If you are feeling sluggish or just plain exhausted even after getting sufficient rest, your body may be telling you something is wrong. Health conditions such as blood disorders, autoimmune conditions or a constant battle with infections may all lead to fatigue.

If your stress levels have been higher been usual, according to the American Psychological Association, your state of mind can affect your state of health.  The body’s constant response to long-term stress can weaken its energy in parts of the body such as your immune system.[1]

Wounds are not healing as quickly.

Have you had a recent injury and notice a cut, bruise or burn is lingering longer than usual? The healing process is dependent on your immune system’s response to the damage.  If your immune system is not functioning properly, your cells will not regenerate as quickly and your body will take longer to heal.

With cold and flu season approaching, in addition to the existing Covid-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever for your immune system to be in top shape.
