Congress introduced Medicare Part D to help patients meet the challenges of rising prescription drug prices. It offers significant savings opportunities to most Medicare enrollees, plus programs that allow people with limited incomes to pay little or nothing for medications.

Medicare Part D is NOT directly administered by the government, unlike Parts A and B. You choose a private plan, much like with other insurance policies. There are lots of choices, so it pays to shop around. Even if you have a plan, you may be able to do better.
