Drug and Product Recall Information

Roxane Laboratories, Inc., is voluntarily initiating a drug recall of two lots of Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Suspension at the patient level. This recall is believed to be attributed to a contamination in one lot of bottles sent to Roxane Laboratories by a supplier. Upon investigation, the product lot 856396A tested positive for a strain of yeast, which could impact immunocompromised patients. There are various manifestations of yeast infections. The risk of developing a yeast infection depends on how immunocompromised the patient is. Additionally, there are a range of symptoms in a yeast infection from thrush, skin rash, and blood infections (sepsis). If patients develop an infection they should consult their physician. There have been no testing failures associated with lot 856693A; however, this lot of product is being included in this recall as a precautionary measure because the same lot of bottles was used to package the above-mentioned lots. This recall is limited to the two lots listed above. No other Roxane Laboratories, Inc., products or lots are impacted by this recall.
