About the Program
KidCents and The Rite Aid Foundation are committed to supporting a safe environment for children in our communities by helping to reduce the misuse of medications by adolescents and accidental childhood poisonings.
The Safe Medication Disposal Program advances that mission by providing local law enforcement agencies in Rite Aid service areas with medication disposal units to ensure that individuals can safely dispose of unwanted medications in an environmentally-friendly manner, while keeping them out of the hands of kids and teens.
Adolescent Prescription Drug Misuse and Accidental Childhood Poisonings
There is a major drug addiction and drug overdose problem in the U.S. These national epidemics pose serious threats to the health, safety and well-being of our nation’s young people.
National studies show that teens are now more likely to abuse a prescription drug than an illegal street drug. In addition, prescription medications have become the leading cause of accidental childhood poisonings.
Reducing drug accessibility and education on medication misuse, for both parents and kids, are key components in our nation’s efforts to address these serious issues and make a positive impact in the lives of the children who live in the communities we serve.
KidCents and The Rite Aid Foundation are proud to partner with local law enforcement agencies to help create a safe environment for children to live and grow.
