The Rite Aid Foundation Donates 15,000 Cases of Water to The American Red Cross

Camp Hill, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2014) - Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) announced today that The Rite Aid Foundation will donate 15,000 cases of water to the American Red Cross West Virginia Region to assist communities across greater Charleston currently under a water ban. The water ban, ordered in response to a chemical leak that contaminated the areas' water supply, affects approximately 300,000 people in a nine county area in West Virginia.

Rite Aid will deliver the water to the National Guard Recruiting Center, starting today, to be distributed to those in need.

"One of Rite Aid's core values is to be a caring neighbor and that's especially true in times of need," said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid's president and chief operating officer and president of The Rite Aid Foundation. "Clean water is crucial for many every day activities as well as the health and wellness of a community. It's our hope that our donation will help make life a little bit safer and easier for the people affected by the water ban."

"The American Red Cross is so grateful for the generous donation from The Rite Aid Foundation as we work to provide a much-needed resource to the people affected by the chemical leak," said Erica Mani, Regional Chief Executive Officer. "We appreciate The Rite Aid Foundation reaching out to us to see how they could help and thank them for helping our community."

Rite Aid stores in the areas affected by the chemical leak are open and serving the prescription and merchandise needs of the local residents. Additionally, Rite Aid is working to bring in additional supplies of water, hand sanitizer and cleaning products to its stores.

Since its inception in 2001, The Rite Aid Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $16 million to more than 1,300 organizations nationwide. For more information on The Rite Aid Foundation, visit
