Philips Norelco Shaver 2100 (Model 6948XL/41) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 169.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have been very happy with the razor since my husband has never used an electric razor. I am very pleased...My husband has Alzheimer's and I have no idea how to shave him. He was still able to shave but was not doing a very good job anymore so I felt I needed to purchase an electric razor soon. Since he had never use an electric razor (he is 81) I did not know if he would like using it or not so I did not want to invest a lot of money into one. It proved to be a good choice. I don't know if I would like or if the one with the floating head would do any better or not. I used it on him first and then realized you to have to press...so I had to do that with him a few times...now he is mastering it pretty well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I expected excellence and I got it! I first used a "Philishave" in 1952 at an International Boy Scout-leaders' camp in England. Philips had arranged the installation of shavers for us to use. The Philips company name in the USA is Norelco. I fell in love with the shaver then and have been using one continuously ever since. Not the same one, of course! The design has changed over the years from that "tear-drop" early design in an ivory-white casing, to the triple-head version I now use. My current replacement is everything I expected...thanks for a remarkably consistent product...although at age 86, this may be my last purchase...depending upon this latest replacement's "life".

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super Close Shave, but flimsy head attachment I just purchased the Phillips/Norelco 6948XL razor with the HQ56. I am very pleased with the closeness of the shave, but I am a bit disappointed in the manufacturing design of the 6948XL. Of all the Norelco shavers I have used, its head assembly feels the flimsiest. It moves around a lot as I shave. But I get a great shave. While I am happy with the shaver, I am disappointed in Phillips/Norelco. I have used a rotary shaver since 1974. I replaced the shaving head every year, and could notice the difference every time I switched heads. A new head made my cheeks feel smooth with no sign of stubble. I replaced the shavers when the switches went bad or when the rechargeable batteries no longer held a charge, but I was quite happy until I switched from the 7825XL with the HQ6 head to the 8251XL with the HQ9 head. I never got a close shave with the HQ9 head. I replaced the head once, thinking maybe I got a bad head originally, but it was no better. I switched to a blade for a while. It gave a real clean shave, but I prefer to use an electric razor to prevent the occasional nick. I determined that the closest shave I ever got with the HQ9 was equivalent to a 9 hour old beard after shaving with a blade. You were very close to losing me as a customer. The HQ9 head was on a mid-priced razor, and it did a lousy job. I studied your website and saw that without going real expensive (i.e. Sensotuch), you offered shavers with the HQ56 and HQ8 heads. HQ56 was recommended for the closest shave. I bought the 6948XL, and it is the closest electric shave I have had in the last 2 years, equal to the closeness of everything before the HQ9 head. I find it appalling that I can get the closest shave with your bottom of the line shaver, and that the more expensive stuff gives you lots of features at the expense of a worse shave. Shouldn’t it be about the closeness of the shave first, with the add-ons and features coming afterwards?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Norelco Shaver A'z Up! A Grandmaster shaver hidden with the low price. It says it right on the box "Durable self-sharpening blades" they recommend replacing it with HQ56 every year. But the HQ56 doesn't even look like the same blade. Why replace a self-sharpening blade with a non self-sharpening blade? After you replace the blade you definitely have to change it every year. I believe this shaver is the only one which doesn't need to replace the head. The only downside is the battery is not Li-ion, but it makes up for it with corded operation. P.S. The blade design cut better than the top models guarantee. Again never need to change your blades.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable little shaver that works I've been using this electric razor for approximately three weeks and have been very satisfied with the results. My only wish is the battery could last a little longer. I can get about 3-4 full shaves out of it before the battery starts winding down. On the plus side, I can use it while it is plugged in. Very gentle shave, doesn't burn or cut me. Very happy with this purchase!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK - You get what you pay for it's a good basic razor but the charge only lasts a week. It does give a good shave but takes longer than what I'm used to. I have used Norelco shavers for years and love them. But I always have paid more to get a better model. When I saw this on a special Christmas sale the price was so low I Thought "I'll Try It" I like it enough that my next razor will be a Phillips Norelco. But I'm used to a faster shave and the models I usually buy a full charge lasts at least a month. So for a person that lower price is a primary factor I would recommend this razor it does give you a good shave.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok razor for the price, buy if you can't afford a more expensive model. Razor motor seems to run very slow compared to others I have tried, the power cord fits VERY loose and has actually fallen out just when setting on the countertop during charging. Ergonomicly seems to have a little of a blocky feel in my hand and the switch would be much handier on top. Since purchasing this I have tried my uncles more expensive model(can't remember #)and now wish now I had bought one of your more expensive models as it seems so much more well made in all respects.
